If you want to play like the best, you’ve got to learn from the best. but still it displays the player 2 light. It used to be on player 1, but now I cant use it, I checked drivers, removed some usb drivers, checked device and printers. my Xbox 360 PC wireless controller is stuck on player 2, sometimes player 3. For a reusable battery pack, plug it in for 1 to 3 hours before trying your controller again. 
Dead batteries are the most common reason a controller turns off, so try replacing them, and see if this does the trick.
If your Xbox 360 wireless controller keeps shutting off, fixing the issue may be as simple as changing the batteries. That or it's always player 2 and you're stuck using the keyboard and mouse for player 1. But otherwise what little I've seen on L4D2, if you configure it right, it knows that "Controller 1" is player 2. The most Windows does is assign a sequential ID so on the off chance games do use multiple controllers, it knows what to do.
